Year of The Dunk by Asher Price

This book rekindled my teenage dream and set the stage for my yearly goal of (trying to) dunk the ball within a year.  Similar to the author, I am already well over my 30’ and even though I’m considered tall at 6 ft 2 inches, I don’t have the “natural” gifts of high vertical leap and can barely eke out a touch of the rim with my modest 12 inch vertical. Nonetheless, after finishing the book over the first two days of 2016, I knew I had to at least give my best shot at achieving this unthinkable feat.  The book does provide few helpful tips on exercise and dietary guidelines on how to become more lean and explosive but the good chunk of the book is actually about the science and history of jumping, true to his profession as a journalist. My favorite part was the ending which defied my expectation and left me feeling more grounded on what it means to have the “desire” to dunk the ball in my middle age, supposedly past my prime.
